There are many ways in which we can improve a patient’s smile. Your dentist will sit down with you and first find out what it is that you don’t like about your smile and then give you a few options.
Once you have decided on the option that you feel is most right for you the dentist will give you a written estimate for the treatment so that you can check with your health fund to find out what they will cover you for.
There are a few ways you can whiten your teeth. At Quality Dental Care we favour in-home tooth whitening. Impressions are taken of your upper and lower teeth and the lab makes trays that will fit over your teeth perfectly. We provide you with the whitening gel to take home and over the course of about 2 weeks, your teeth will gradually lighten.
This is an inexpensive, non-aggressive way of whitening your teeth. You can whiten your teeth at your own pace and give yourself ‘top ups’ whenever required. It should be noted that some short-term sensitivity is common.
Tooth whitening will whiten natural teeth but not crowns or fillings. You may choose to replace these at a later stage.
While Crowns are primarily used to strengthen teeth they are also used in some situations to provide a very aesthetic solution to shape colour and alignment issues.
Composite veneers are white fillings bonded to the front of the tooth to alter its appearance. While not as strong or as aesthetic as the lab-made porcelain veneers (see below) these can be used to great effect in certain situations. The only negatives of composite veneers are that they stain from time to time and are also prone to chipping once in a while.
Porcelain veneers are a thin pieces of porcelain made by the lab cemented to the front of the tooth to alter its appearance. With veneers you can alter the size, shape, and colour of the teeth they are bonded to. They are highly aesthetic and have the advantage of not needing to remove very much tooth (if any) to apply them.
